Lancaster Grand Prix - round three of the Men's National Road Series

When the Ardennes meets British Cycling… the inaugural Lancaster Grand Prix was as savage as it looked on paper, living up to its billing as an “Ardennes Classic” type race. With over 2500m of climbing in the 160km course, it was a brutally tough day in the saddle - and a race which suited a number of the top riders.

Williamson Park hosted the start and finish of the race, and the brutal climbs up to the park in the closing few kilometres was the springboard for race-winning attacks. After a three-rider breakaway enjoyed much of the day up the road, it was local lad Ian Bibby who triumphed for Madison Genesis, putting a winter of injury and illness behind him.
